Canada and Ontario Support Construction and Repair of Affordable Homes in Peterborough
The federal government is contributing over $42 million through the National Housing Co-Investment Fund (NHCF) and the Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI) to support the development of more than 1,000 homes. Additionally, there is a combined investment of over $1.8 million from the federal and provincial governments through the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative (OPHI), and over $2.4 million through the Canada – Ontario Community Housing Initiative (COCHI). The City of Peterborough is also providing over $5 million.
The initiative will include the construction of a new 6-story building, offering 53 units to vulnerable populations in Peterborough, such as Black Canadians, people with disabilities, Indigenous Peoples, and those at risk of homelessness. The project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2024.
