Government of Canada and Ontario Sign Bilateral Agreement to End Gender-based Violence

In Canada, gender-based violence (GBV) remains a major obstacle to achieving gender equality. This week, Marci Ien, Minister of Women and Gender Equality and Youth, along with Sonia Sidhu, MP for Brampton South, announced a historic bilateral agreement, joined by Michael Parsa, Ontario’s Minister of Children, Community and Social Services, and Charmaine Williams, Ontario’s Associate Minister of Women’s Social and Economic Opportunity. A $162 million investment over four years will aid the implementation of the 10-year National Action Plan to End Gender-based Violence in Ontario, focusing on prevention, aiding at-risk populations, and stabilizing the GBV sector. The agreement enhances survivor support through Indigenous-led approaches, economic security initiatives, and prevention strategies. This collaboration emphasizes coordinated federal, provincial, and territorial action.
