Hundreds in Toronto Ride the 'Underground Freedom Train' to Mark Emancipation Day

The annual Underground Freedom Train Ride took place in Toronto to mark the beginning of Emancipation Day celebrations. Hundreds of participants rode the subway from Union to Downsview station, symbolically commemorating the Slavery Abolition Act 1833, which initiated the process of ending legal slavery in the former British Empire. The event also highlights the connection between the Underground Railroad and Toronto Caribbean Carnival, both celebrating emancipation.
