Racialized Workers in Canada Less Likely to Be Unionized

A new report from the Centre for Future Work reveals that Black and racialized workers in Canada are significantly less likely to be unionized compared to their non-racialized counterparts. Only 25% of racialized workers are covered by union contracts, compared to 33% of non-racialized workers, with the gap being even more pronounced for racialized women. The report highlights that racialized workers face lower wages and job insecurity, often working in sectors with minimal union presence. Recommendations include increased union efforts to engage racialized workers and develop inclusive organizing strategies. The report underscores the need for unions to address racial disparities and enhance their advocacy for equitable labor practices.
