Refugee serving organizations, organizations working with people experiencing homelessness, and other civil society groups held a press conference on Friday, July 14, 2023, to address the pressing crises affecting refugees in the city. Frontline leaders from these organizations emphasized the current state of the refugee shelter crisis and the immediate actions required from all levels of government. The press conference aimed to advocate for urgent measures to provide emergency and long-term shelter, as well as humanitarian assistance, to refugee claimants and migrant workers in Toronto.
There has been significant media coverage of the plight of African refugees. They key, going forward, is to sustain the momentum for medium to long-term solutions to structural inequities that affect African refugees in Canada.
