Examining Funding and Evaluation Relationships

Drawing lessons from our work with community partners and collaborators, NABC invites B3/nonprofit leaders, funders, evaluation practitioners, and community leaders to examine and understand the current funding and evaluation relationships; and explore ways to take concrete steps to improve funding and evaluation relationships between funders and B3s/nonprofits to produce better outcomes for communities. 


After participating, you will be able to:

  • Examine, reflect, and validate NABC’s lessons learned and perspectives
  • Develop a deeper understanding of current funding and evaluation relationships 
  • Explore action steps that can improve funding and evaluation relationships to produce better outcomes for communities  

Yonatan Ghebray
Associate Executive Director
Yonatan Ghebray brings a wealth of experience working with B3s/nonprofits, evaluation practitioners, and fundersHe draws lessons from NABC’s partnerships with the Supporting Black Canadian Communities Initiatives (SBCCI) and Healthy Communities Initiatives (HCI) and designing & implementing evaluation capacity building initiatives. He firmly believes that producing better outcomes for communities is a shared responsibility of B3s/nonprofits, evaluation practitioners, and funders. 


Allan Boesak
Director, Youth, African Diaspora and Continental Engagement
Allan is an experienced champion and facilitator of systemic social transformation helping diverse groups make progress on tough challenges. He has worked in international development cooperation and community development for over 20 years and has professional experience across the African continent and Europe working with community organizations, non-profits, business, all levels of government, and international agencies. As a facilitator, Allan strives to create safe spaces for meaningful, authentic and constructive dialogue through interactive, co-creative and experiential methodologies.  

This offering is designed for B3 organizations, nonprofits, funders, evaluation practitioners, and community members interested in reshaping funding and evaluation relationships to better serve communities. 

Through facilitated discussion and reflection circles, participants will explore lived experiences, analyze practical examples, and identify ways to strengthen funding and evaluation practices. 

All sessions will be delivered virtually via Zoom, providing accessible participation for individuals and organizations across Canada. 

Entry requirements

Participation is open to:

  • B3 (Black-led, Black-focused, Black-serving) organizations and nonprofits

  • Funders and funding bodies interested in strengthening relationships with grantees

  • Evaluation practitioners working with B3 organizations

  • Community members engaged in or impacted by funding and evaluation processes

Participants should be willing to engage in reflective discussions, share perspectives, and explore collaborative solutions for improving funding and evaluation relationships.
